SSRC Researchers Awarded 2013 Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence

SSRC researchers Josef Oehmen and Eric Rebentisch won the 2013 Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award for "The Guide to Lean Enablers for Managing Engineering Programs", a joint collaboration between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lean Advancement Initiative (MIT-LAI), the Project Management Institute (PMI), and the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). The prize was awarded for demonstrating a commitment to promoting operational excellence through a published work.

Designing Systems for a Complex World: Prof. Joseph Sussman Discussed Developing Processes for Understanding Complex Sociotechnical Systems

On Wed., Feb. 6, Prof. Joseph Sussman presented "Developing Processes for Understanding Complex Sociotechnical Systems: Are We There Yet?" from 4:15-5:30 p.m. in E25-111. 

Prof. Sussman is the JR East Professor and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Systems.

SSRC and CESF Sponsor The Second MIT Election Conference

The MIT Center for Engineering Systems Fundamentals (CESF) and the Sociotechnical Systems Research Center (SSRC) sponsored The Second MIT Election Conference on October 19, 2012 at the Bartos Theater.
Under the leadership of CESF Director Richard Larson 50+ Electoral College experts and attendees discussed the presidential election process and methods for improvement. The conference focused on: (1) an explanation of the current election process and the challenge of accurately reflecting voter preferences, (2) an examination of the Electoral College system and alternative proposals such as the National Popular Vote plan, and (3) an exploration of the legal issues surrounding voter identification.
