Fostering Collaboration

The structure and interdisciplinary environment of SSRC supports collaboration among faculty, researchers, and students across MIT departments, labs, and centers. SSRC also works with an array of domestic and international partners. The center offers many interesting opportunities for students to get involved.

Creating Connections

SSRC also creates connections to help faculty, researchers, and students navigate the sometimes-complicated network of MIT resources. SSRC liaises with the Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of Sponsored Programs, and the Office for the Vice President of Finance.

SSRC Services

Human Resources

SSRC can help with the hiring process by writing and posting job descriptions, managing the hiring process, and managing temporary worker assignments. SSRC also manages the onboarding process to help new staff and visitors get off to a good start.

SSRC is available to support office moves and manage equipment and vendor issues. Visiting students and scholars often need help before they arrive on campus. SSRC can prepare invitation letters, review visa documentation, and liaise with campus offices to ensure smooth transitions to campus. Incoming student resources include the International Scholars Office, the International Students Office, Student Financial Services Office, and MIT Medical

Resources for postdoctoral students can be found here. CSAIL, the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, has also compiled a list of orientation items for postdoctoral associates and fellows.

Research and Financial Administration

SSRC works with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to submit proposals accurately and on time to ensure that award monies are distributed, and that completed research projects are properly closed.

Communications and Event Management

SSRC can help plan and manage events, vendors, and related communications depending on the size of the event. Please contact the staff to discuss specific requests.

MIT has many different spaces on campus that are available for use by the community.

  • For classroom reservations, contact the Office of the Registrar.
  • For large space use contact the Campus Activities Complex.
  • There are various rooms around the campus that are managed by individual DLCs and can be reserved by directly contacting the department.

SSRC is happy to help with purchase cards and travel cards. The center also has its own travel policy.
